Day 127 - Winter Wonderland

Dealing with renovation projects can certainly be stressful. Budgeting, organizing, and scheduling can be anxiety-inducing, even if done as efficiently as possible. When things don't go as planned, it can be even worse. So far, besides the countertop chaos, the first floor renovation had gone relatively smoothly. And though we were at the tail end of this major project, we needed a little bit of time to recuperate before the final push.

Luckily, we didn't have to go far to find the perfect spot to recharge.

Though a frigid Wisconsin winter might not seem ideal for outdoor exploration, it can certainly be a great adventure with an opportunity over obstacle mindset.

The temperature might be low and the moving might be slow, but heading out to the big backyard in winter was just what we needed. Our trail was iced over, so ice skates might have been a better mode of transportation. We enjoyed looking for tracks, crunching our way through the snow-covered land, and enjoying the sights and sounds winter had to offer.

Besides cracking any ice they could find, the kids enjoyed making predictions about the tracks they found when traveling in either their boots or snowshoes. They also enjoyed occasionally pelting the nearest adult with snowballs, much to my chagrin.

When not dodging snowballs, there was something beautiful about the glistening snow and the crisp air. The beauty of the falling flakes and the way the flakes hugged branches on their descent was always peaceful. I’ll be honest. I’m not a big fan of removing snow from the driveway and porch. It has nice workout benefits, but it is still more of an annoyance. Still, the actual snow is wonderful. The snow gear process can be frustrating, but the joy in the experience is well worth it. Whether sledding, snowshoeing, ice skating, or building and exploring with the flakes, winter on the farm is playful and a much-needed break from the seclusion of the indoor world.

But, since our indoor world was improving with every new project, it wasn't too bad to be stuck inside. We still had work to do. The new kitchen space was ready to be a working space.
