Day 129 - Cottagecore and a Brand New Floor
We reimagined a brand new living room. We updated a bathroom. We created a laundry room. We transformed a hallway into a mudroom. We moved and readied a brand new kitchen. Now, we had a totally open room facing our big and beautiful backyard. We decided it would be more of a lounge for reading, relaxing, and wildlife watching.
This clean slate of a room gave us an opportunity to be creative and think outside the box. Heck, it may have also been a perfect room to experiment in creative wackiness.
We threw some ideas around. All of our ideas had a similar thread: nature. We decided to look into shadow boxes featuring natural artifacts, taxidermy, and nature-focused art. We kind of felt like this lounge would have a vintage nature center feel. Upon further investigation and research, my wife determined our direction was headed in what designers call cottagecore.
Once we knew a general idea of what we were looking for, we had some fun looking out for pieces that could accentuate our interests and solidify our theme.
Nature would definitely be at the center of our cottagecore concept. Scouring thrift stores to find the perfect accessory was oddly enjoyable. We found some pieces that not only matched our concept, but fit in beautifully with our color scheme. We also looked into creating our own pieces of nature art to add to the mix. It was amazing to see the room organically come together. It offered a different feel than the rest of the house while simultaneously bringing it all together. We had most of what we felt would adorn the walls of this lounge. But we weren’t done yet. We had to wait for the new windows and patio door to be finished for installation before officially putting the finishing touches on the first floor renovation.
Of course, we couldn't just sit and wait for these items to show up. We had plenty of work to do. Luckily for me, the majority of this work was to be done outside.
Sort of.
The barn needed some work. I needed to refresh my skills.. It was a match made in heaven.
Or maybe hell.
