Day 131

The inside of the barn needed a fair amount of work as well. Half of it was a chicken coop that needed continual work to keep the flock watered, fed, and cleared of garden gold, otherwise known as chicken poop. Of course, the payoff was in our daily collection of fluffy butt nuggets.

The other side of the barn was, how do you say, organized chaos. There were various stalls, the first stall was where the door was. It currently had an old desk used as a tool storage area, The second stall was home to a table saw and a repurposed cabinet full of containers of herbicide, gasoline, and small engine oil. Stall number was our lawn mower area. It housed our oldie but a goodie riding mower, our push mower, our heavy duty trimmer and old hoses. Stall four was used for storage of summer items, including bikes, our grill, a few seating benches, and miscellaneous outdoor toys. The next stall was our wood stall. Since moving to the farm, we had collected any quality wood pieces of different lengths and widths that we could potentially use for various projects. Next up was a stall of pallets. We knew we wanted them for an expanded garden and nature play area. The final stall was the garden stall. It held two large repurposed cabinets full of gardening supplies including seeds and tools. This area also held some of our outdoor decorations, like an array of bird feeders, bird houses, and silly lawn ornaments

In winter, the barn filled up with things that might normally be used outside. In summer, those same things were brought back outside. The seasonal shift left the barn feeling somewhat empty.

One thing we did to fill it was to add a big trampoline. It provided fun for the kids and useful for the family. While adults were doing barn stuff or completing chicken chores, the kids could be entertained and close. Plus, upon measuring it, it could easily be transferred to the outside if weather allowed.

Even though empty space remained, we knew we could and probably would eventually fill it. Luckily, the stalls weren’t the only storage available.
