Day 148 - Metal Mayhem
In our farm experiences, we have been lucky (or unlucky) to find plenty of discarded items. Most of the treasures were useless and trash. Some of these gems have been of the metallic variety. While collecting metal can at times be a lucrative endeavor, we just didn’t have the time or energy to become amateur metal scrap collectors. With the farm’s day to day responsibilities combined with the plethora of pop up projects, we found it easier to find a partner in the clean up process.
Our tree guy now doubles as a dumpster guy so that was quite easy. We’ve been able to fill up a few full dumpsters and top off a number of others as we uncover more and more of the treasures the farm has to offer us. While I am not a huge fan of just tossing things in the trash, it is oddly rewarding and satisfying to fill up a dumpster.
Our dumpster guy noticed that we had been accumulating a small metal scrapyard and mentioned his contact. We knew we could easily turn in some of the metal for extra cash but we knew some would be a bit daunting for our current abilities. We decided it would be nice to have someone come and take it away for us.
After our initial call, he was able to schedule a time where he would come and see what we had for him. When the time came, he was happy to take away a fair amount of random metal pieces we had piled up behind the barn. Most of it was rusted and old with sharp edges not suitable to be around small children (or old men who act like children). The mountain of metal was quite an eyesore and was becoming a mouse motel, so we were more than happy to see it go.
With our house projects and occasional uncovering of new treasures outside, he has made a few return visits. He even was able to cut the aforementioned basketball oop in small pieces, easy to transfer to the metal yard.
Our yard was getting cleaned up. Our neighbor’s yard was just getting dirtier by the truckload.
