Day 2

One late spring afternoon, my better half texted me a link to the listing for what would become our future farm. Once I saw the asking price, I’ll admit I didn’t look into it any further. I texted her back saying she sent me the wrong link. She asked me to take a closer look. When I did, the sticker shock morphed into a mix of curiosity and excitement. While the asking price was considerably more than any other property we had dug into, the perks of this particular possibility outmatched anything we had encountered so far.

Now, we were already reserved to the fact that we would need the perfect situation to move. Schools were a major factor. We absolutely love the school district I am blessed to work for, so we always thought it would be nice to live within the boundaries of this district. Living in a neighboring district, we would have to open enroll each child individually. The chances of getting all three kids to “win” a spot into the distinct were about as likely as winning the lottery. Though it’d be nice, we were perfectly fine staying in our suburban neighborhood and utilizing the great school a block and a half away. This neighborhood had so many benefits. Amazing neighbors. Convenient location. Nature and frozen yogurt were just a short walk away. We were content, but still intrigued at what other options were available.

Up until this point, we had looked at a few other prospective places. Some had amazing yards, but not enough indoor space for an active family of five. The amazing potential of some spots was outweighed by the amount of work needed and the lack of time and money available to reach that potential. Throw in the fact that it was currently a huge (and I mean huge) seller’s market, we wanted to make sure we were not moving just for the sake of moving. Like I mentioned before, we needed to be blown away by a perfect scenario to even consider uprooting our family.

But yet, there was still an itch and when investigating this listing with greater detail, this itch was definitely worth scratching.
