Day 200
My trailbuilding goal was a bit lackluster to this point. I had a number of different mowers/trimmers, but nothing was really the proper machine to build and maintain trail. Previously, I had considered a larger tractor with various implements but that wasn't in the budget for now. I had connections with people with more adequate equipment but paying to have them mow the trail occasionally also wasn't fiscally responsible. I couldn't acquire a new machine and didn't have the capabilities with my current equipment. There had to be a middle ground.
I did more research and became very intrigued by a self-propelled, walk-behind,high-powered brush cutter machine. Using the magic of the Internet, I searched for a used machine that wouldn’t seriously hurt the checkbook. I found a few local options that fit my budget and did more investigations, I got details about each machine and researched them. I read reviews, watched videos of them in action, and naked follow up questions as needed.
One particular machine intrigued me a bit more and it also happened to be the cheaper option I inquired about the possibility of delivery. When I found out that wasn't an option, I looked into other options. I considered renting the same type of machine from a local hardware store to try it out. Still, I would need to rent a trailer to get it to me. While contemplating my next move and distracting myself with other tasks, I kind of forgot about the brush cutter for a bit and knew I would dig into it again after the land was mowed. I knew that it would be much easier to create and maintain a trail when it was already mowed down.
When the land was mowed, I turned my attention back to getting a brush cutter. Reopening my investigation, the machine I was most interested in was available and actually reduced in price. Seeing this as a golden opportunity, I asked if the seller would consider holding it for a few weeks if I put money down.
Not only did he agree, he lowered the price to sweeten the deal.
Time for me to figure out a pickup plan.
