Day 270
One of the highlights of the lounge is the bar area. My wife wanted to create a modern and stylish aesthetic so one wall has some glass-fronted cabinets with a lovely butcher board and copper sink. This area includes glassware from various breweries and other beer-themed adornments. Of course, the actual mini fridge full of craft beer is my personal favorite.
Whether it is wheats, ales, pilsner, lagers, saisons, or stouts, I enjoy beer all year. However, the fall season provides something extra special: Oktoberfest. This German-inspired, marzen style glass) or bottle of deliciousness is something I look forward to every year. In fact, my enjoyment of this beautiful brew has helped me develop and celebrate something I call the Oktoberfest Challenge. You should try it as well.
Essentially, in the weeks leading up to the actual month of October, I do what I can to acquire as many different Oktoberfests as possible. Not only do I enjoy checking out new beers and breweries on a regular basis, inspecting and appreciating the intricate can and bottle art during our Fall seasonal beers is quite phenomenal. Known as Brew City, I do think there should be a section of the Milwaukee Art Museum dedicated to the amazing array of decorative beer bottles. I have a few favorite places to look for new varieties and am also fortunate to have people in my life aware of my challenge who are on the lookout for different versions as well.
While I haven’t quite successfully found thirty-one different varieties in a single year, I’ve come close. I usually supplement any missing days with repeated or a less desirable seasonal alternative, usually of the pumpkin variety.
I’ve only got a few varieties so far, so I need to start shopping. I am planning on celebrating them in a more permanent fashion. Barn stall dedicated to Oktoberfest. A can collage? Either way, the collecting is as much fun as the actual imbibing. This challenge is a fun way to put a spotlight on one of my favorite times of the year. If you are a little thirsty, feel free to join in. Or better yet, send a few varieties my way!
