Day 363

Every morning, I take a second to look out into the big backyard and admire our land. It’s always a beautiful sight. Each season provides new opportunities. It's always exciting to see animals roaming. As our restoration project moves through the different steps, More and more animals are seen.

Every once in a while, the weather gives us new sights and sounds. I love a good storm. The anticipation of a storm is always extremely exciting. I love watching the dark clouds roll in and the calmness that is prevalent before a storm takes over. The increasing breeze and temperature shifts preceding a storm is one of my happy times. Hearing the roll of thunder and seeing the electric light show from the comfort of my home is amazing, especially when viewing the big backyard.

The wind can also provide some excitement. It also creates cleanup. Living in our own little wind vortex can make it a bit hectic as we try to be proactive and safely put things away before they blow away.

Freshly fallen snow is a treasure to see clinging to the trees. Watching the kids (and adults) attempt to catch the fat flakes falling from the sky is especially enjoyable. Gorgeous sunsets offer an amazing array of purple and orange skies. Minimal light pollution allows the stars to light up the sky.

But of all the wonderful sights our farm offers us, the eeriness of the fog is probably the most breathtaking. Maybe it is the element of mystery, but there is something special about waking up to see (or barely see) the backyard because of the not yet lifted fog blanketing the land. Simultaneously stunning and spooky, it offers a unique perspective of the land, especially when you get the opportunity to see a deer appear out of the haze.

As I wind down this writing challenge of creating a 365-word entry every day of 2023, I am reminded just how fortunate I’m to even have this opportunity. The farm has been an adventure of a lifetime and we’re literally just getting started. There will be more storms to watch roll in, fog to gaze upon, and sunsets to enjoy.
