Tar Tag
Kids don’t need the latest and greatest technology to have fun. Piles of toys are unnecessary. Various gadgets and gizmos are temporary fixes. Kids just need the time, space, and opportunity to be kids. They may initially claim boredom has taken over and do everything under the sun to try and get adults to “entertain” them.
But as kids do naturally, they will find a way to find fun. Play always finds a way.
At a recent recess, I saw kids play one of my favorite childhood games. Not tag. Not hide & seek. Not even Duck, Duck, Goose. I loved playing tar tag.
Find any older parking lot and you’ve got a Tar Tag field. Basically, it’s like tag, except you have to stay on a tar line. Surprisingly fun despite its simplicity.
But that’s the joy of play. It can be found anywhere and everywhere, Just keep your eyes and ears open!
