Butterflakes
Weather in Wisconsin, If you don’t like it, just wait fifteen minutes. It will change.
Last week, we had weather in the 70’s. Earlier this week, we had thunderstorms. yesterday, we had snow. Today, it was 60 degrees and clear.
If you think Mother Nature is confused, you should have seen the painted lady butterflies our class has been raising. My kids really, really, really wanted to let the free almost immediately. The snowflakes swirling around had other plans.
While my students reluctantly waited to release our butterflies until the warmer weather returned today, my actual children were not as patient.
Yesterday, as the thin blanket of snow melted away, my kids gingerly moved our butterflies from the butterfly net inside to the tulips outside.
Raising the butterflies and literally moving the butterflies outside is easy peasy compared to naming them.
Our final butterfly’s name was actually a slip of the tongue. As the light snow resumed, I inadvertently combined butterfly and snowflakes.
Butterflakes. After the wacky weather of the day threw another curveball our way, Butterflakes felt perfect.
