Day 21 - The Fun Begins
Now the fun begins! The turbulent ride may have seemed like it was coming to an end, but there was still plenty of action remaining before we could settle into our new home. We had a very short window to move our stuff from the house and the packed trailer parked in front of it to the farm. However, after witnessing how much material was removed from our new house in an even shorter amount of time, it wasn't as daunting a task as I originally thought it would be.
Packing up our items at the house was cathartic. We kept some items, donated some more, and sold even some at a few weekend rummage sales along the way. Yet, as much as we got rid of things, more appeared to come out of the shadows. Luckily for us, we don't have to make rash decisions as the farm had the blessing of plenty of storage. This was also a curse, as proven by the previous owner.
Reality sank in as room and room emptied out at the old abode. It felt like a flashback to when we first moved in fifteen years earlier. Young and engaged, home ownership felt like we had finally made it into adulthood. The financial numbers were staggering to us both being fresh out of school at the start of our careers but we knew it was an investment. Years later, seeing how much our house had increased in value, we realized all the work we had done to improve the house was worth it. New bathroom. New kitchen. New roof. New siding, fascia, and soffit. New driveway. New windows.
I remember the excitement of waiting for the phone call that our offer was accepted in between giving Zoomobile tours at the zoo. That exhilarating feeling returned fifteen years later when we got an email acceptance for the farm.
We had put tons of work into our old house and we knew there would be even more at the new place. But it was a labor of love. We knew this investment had the potential to pay off for the future of our family.
We couldn't wait to get started.
