Day 20 - Shattered Dreams

Shattering glass is never a sound most people want to hear, especially during a move. Luckily for me, the only thing that broke was a beer bottle. However, timing is everything and the contents of said bottle spilled all over me just minutes before I was scheduled to meet my wife and agent to sign closing documents. What was meant to be a celebratory gesture after clearing another hurdle in what seemed like a never ending race had now become a possible omen of things to come.

Even when things were going right, something went wrong.

Changing clothes wasn't the most viable option as pretty much everything was packed up so we could begin the process of moving as soon as the ink dried on the closing documents paperwork. Even though our old house had officially transferred ownership multiple weeks before, the new owners graciously allowed us to live there up until the closing of this new house plus a few additional days. This was very much appreciated as this gave us a small window of time to move from old to new without having to store items in a different location.

The time had come to start wrapping up our time at one place and begin life at the other. But, a few final formalities needed to occur before we could make that happen. I headed to the meeting, beer smell and all. After all the chaos of this transaction, a little beer on clothing was nothing more than a fun story to share with the people who helped make this process trudge along, nightmarish step after nightmarish step.

But I think surviving a nightmare makes experiencing the dream that much sweeter.

It might be an understatement, but this process was certainly not what we expected. It went in many different directions, left us anxious and exhausted, and taught us many things we never thought we would have to know.  We survived it together and I think that made us stronger and more appreciative of everyone who helped make this possibility a reality.

Once at the meeting, we dotted the i’s, crossed the t’s, and officially took ownership over our new house and land.
