Day 236
Inflatables.
These decorative, air-filled yard additions are at the height of popularity in my household. We absolutely love driving around town during the holidays and seeing the variety of inflatables and creativity of inflatable design and placement. This decoration, once limited to the winter holiday season, has expanded into holidays throughout the year and my kids couldn’t be happier. In fact, one of their highlights of the holiday season is going to our local Fleet Farm and Menard’s and exploring the holiday-themed aisled, watching the display inflatables in action. What started off as watching has slowly become creating a holiday collection we can enjoy for years to come.
When we lived in the subdivision and decorated for the holidays, we didn’t really enter the inflatable game. Now that we have a much bigger yard on a much busier road and we are starting up a farm which will eventually host public events, we felt it was time to up our decorative game. The way to do that was clear.
Inflatables. Again, the kids couldn't be happier.
When we made our first purchase, the children were happy. When we added to the collection with a second and third and fourth and fifth and sixth purchase. Their excitement only grew. When we added new inflatables for new holidays, it was hard to contain their excitement.
When the time came to set them up, it wasn't hard to get kid assistance. Some of their favorite characters make regular appearances. Whether it is one of the Minions, Jack Skellington, Santa Claus, Snoopy, or more general characters like pumpkins and penguins, our yard becomes a colorful and friendly atmosphere every year from October through the New Year. With some extension cords, plastic pallets (as a base), and zip ties to help secure them from our dreaded wind gusts, we work together to figure out our annual design and get everything in order. Once finally set up and ready, flipping the switch to both inflate and deflate the cast of characters becomes a huge opportunity (and regular argument) between the tree cherubs. I can honestly say inflatable display creation day has become a time and treasured highlight of our holiday traditions.
