Day 265
Even though we are over a month away, my children have decided that Halloween is right around the corner and we need to do something about it.
Now.
With a goal of placing inflatables in front of the barn and motivated children wanting to create a haunted barn, the next logical step was to complete a decoration inventory. After bringing down our Halloween tote from the loft of the barn. We tested out the inflatables before determining where they would be placed. While we had a variety of decorations from the past, the children’s consensus was that more decorations were needed, especially of the spooky variety.
Failing to add a decoration fund into our annual budget, we had to look at discretionary income to accomplish this feat. Without bags and bags of extra money sitting round, we had to be resourceful. Being a big fan of thrift stores and repurposed items, a trip to a few local Goodwill should get the job done.
The kids were excited. Beyond excited. I had to reel in that excitement and refocus them when they say aisle after aisle of spooktacular Halloween items. Each child was given certain creative freedom to make a spooky selection of their own before we gathered together and evaluated our potential additions. When all was said and done after a few trips to different stores, we had enough decorations to get started.
After a few hours of decorating and redecorating, the kids were satisfied with their job.
For now. They still inquired about what they needed to do to earn more money and add more decorations. Time will tell.
But as of now, five inflatables, including two Minions, adorn the front yard along with a few other selected gems. On the barn, we have a Jack Skellington inflatable and a few signs attached to the barn’s siding. We also have a light which rotates seasonal scenes on the front of the barn. Inside, we are still waiting to find the time and energy to get spooky, but we have a few light up skulls, a couple of larger signs, and a string of pumpkin lights.
A little more time, and the spookiness will increase.
