Day 331
Well, so far, Mother Nature is not cooperating. Hoping to get a second day of clearing up and going, I was instead woken up to a few inches of the white stuff. With the extended forecast showing temperatures tight at freezing for the next week, the deep freeze needed to make our workplace manageable was not looking promising. Instead, the fresh snow and thawable temperatures would most likely make the land a slippery, muddy mess. Not exactly the best conditions for moving wood. This changed my plans pretty promptly.
While very pretty, the first real snowfall of the season was not met with the ooh’s and aah's it might normally receive. With all the distractions lately, I had failed to move many items into the barn for their winter storage.
Seeing that the really cold temperatures are still a ways away, I am not too concerned. There should still be plenty of time to get items to their home for the cold season.
There are still plenty of other things waiting to keep me busy. I already turned off the outside water and cleared out the rain barrels. This makes getting fresh water to the things more of an ordeal, but this daily necessity becomes part of the winter routine. I already added straw bales to the garden and the coops to help with protecting sensitive plants and warming even more sensitive birds.
I did however forget one important task. Usually, when the temperatures are below freezing but before the land is covered with snow, like to do one final major dog poop pickup in the yard. If I wait too long, it can be much messier. Picking up wet piles of poop is much less desirable than frozen poop pellets.
Oops.
I did however make a path in the snow for our dog, Nugget, to be able to use the backyard as his restroom. His paws freeze up pretty quickly and being an old, old man, I’d like him to be as comfortable as possible.
There will be more snow .With snow comes plenty of fun and plenty of work. You have to take the good with the bad. Let's hope for more good.
