Day 84
I feel I have been blessed with a variety of skills, some more useful than others. I consider myself a decent dad, serviceable husband, and adequate educator. I’ve been told I can write well. In my younger days, I was actually sort of fast. I won a choral award in high school. I played baseball until I was a sophomore in college. I like to say I know a little about a lot. However, I do have my limitations. Visualizing a space and utilizing the most efficient design is not one of them so I am thankful my wife has the foresight and vision to focus on these important details. With a kid in a candy store mentality, she was thrilled to look at her options and excited about putting together a new kitchen.
She connected with the previous designer who helped us with our first kitchen remodel. She shared ideas with me and was giddy at the thought of what our new kitchen would become.
What kind of cabinets would we order?
What would the layout be?
Do we get new appliances?
What kind of countertops do we want?
Light fixtures?
Flooring?
Pantry location?
Sink and faucet options?
The choices were endless and although this was a blessing, it quickly became a curse.
Supply and demand issues combined with a careful watch on the budget made things a bit more frustrating than our first go around. Communication between all parties involved was sporadic at best. Decisions were made, unmade, made again, and then changed. Trying to make everything perfect was an impossible task, especially with so many unknowns about availability of materials and manpower. But, if it's not worth doing right, it's not worth doing. With this being our home for life, we wanted to take our time and really make sure our decisions were correct.
Those decisions were finally made and the plan was finalized. Items were ordered. Contracts were signed, Payments were made. The waiting game for supplies and contractor availability had started. We didn't have to worry too much about waiting because we had plenty of other projects to keep us ridiculously busy until the new kitchen was ready for us.
