Corn Kingdom
Sound the royal trumpets! The King & Queen are on their throne.
Of course, the throne is stacked up haybales and the royal scepters are corn stalks.
As fall fades away, our trail always gladly accepts discarded items that used to decorate yards. Pumpkins play a pivotal role as they provide a food source and splash of color to our mouse houses but occasional deliveries of haybales and corn stalks always pique the imagination of the children.
This year was no different.
After delivering the bales to the fallen tree forest, the class managed to stack them in a manner that made them look like a chaise lounge chair, perfectly arranged to fit two full size kindergarteners.
Of course when the first pair sat there and happened to each grab a corn stalk, they assumed the role of royalty and started bossing the poor peasants around. Oddly enough, the others responded and completed the requests of the royal couple without objection.
Each return visit installed a new royal couple and new royal orders. The class worked together to make their newly established Corn Kingdom a wonderful place to live and explore.
Grab some hay. Collect some corn. Give the kids time, space, and opportunity and see what play brings your way.
