Living with Loss

Everyone deals with loss. Some grow angry. Some get sad. Some stay silent. I may do a little of all three. Over the last year, my family has been hit with plenty of losses. My father went to heaven in November of 2023 and it seems that was just the beginning. More recently, we’ve tragically lost our cat and a close friend. But losses don’t always have to be personal to be impactful. Besides losing Milwaukee icon Bob Uecker, my school district lost a student in a tragic accident.

No matter the magnitude of the loss, there are reminders about losses everywhere. When my father passed, I was able to acquire two transportation posters he lovingly kept in his living room. Being a local transportation buff, he was happy to share his unending knowledge of old street names and bus routes.

Now, whenever I head downstairs and enjoy time with my family, these posters adorn the wall and transform the sting of loss into the joy of memories.
