My Writing Life

I started writing when I was just a little kid. I remember “publishing” satirical stories and personal top ten lists with an antiquated word processor. While my reading audience was mainly one of my older sisters, I enjoyed the idea of using the written word to express myself. My early writing moved onto creating non-fiction books about my favorite animals and historical events before moving on to terrible poetry aimed at impressing the ladies.

It didn’t.

But I really remember my writing taking off when I knew I would become a father. I thought it would be fun to write one hundred stories, about me, one hundred words each. I thought this would be a fun gift to my child. I ended up writing more than one hundred. I even wrote others about other aspects of my life. While the website I started this is no longer in use, I could uncover a few and share them here in the future.

As I got older, I started thinking about writing for kids and eventually joined a few groups to work towards publishing a picture book. Long story short, I doid get short-term representation from a literary agent, which was quite an accomplishment, However, whwn that relationmship ended and the rejections from publishers and agents l=alike piled up, I stepped away to work on writing about my classroom pjhilosop[hy.

Being a regular presenter to other educators, many of my attendees encouraged me to share my story. I laughed it time and time again but eventually gave it a shot. While TEACHING OFF TRAIL isn’t a New York Times bestseller, I am proud of it and hope it makes a difference for someone out there.

But now, I have a few more writing goals. Writing is therapy for me. I look forward to rekindling a few projects this year. I look forward to sharing them once they are a bit more off the ground.
