Love

Life in the world right now is lacking in many qualities necessary for harmony. It seems like everywhere you go, everywhere you look, and everything you hear is divisive and disheartening.

Schools have not escaped this division. The politicization of education is evident. What once felt like a collaborative community of learners is now a place where walking on eggshells is an everyday experience.

Outside the school walls, external forces feed the division machine, leading the world to a place where communication appears to be rooted in aggression, rigidity, and misunderstanding.

To avoid this trend, I try to focus on what I can control. This means more than the standards I study, the lessons I lead, and the data I document.

It is actually quite simple. It is love. How I love my kids. Not my students. My kids. During the school year, I spend just as much if not more time with my class than I do my own children.

So while the world might feel like it is crumbling around us, maybe, just maybe, we can change it.

With love.
