The Farm - Winter Update
My apologies for neglecting to provide updates on our farm, Craneview on Plainview. The shortened days and dropping temperatures have slowed down my writing as if I am preparing for hibernation.
Our last few months have offered new opportunities and adventures. We’ve learned our two new kittens mouse-catching instincts are intact. We’ve seen the unfettered winds blow impressive snow drifts around the property. We’ve also loved observing bird after bird munch morsels of seed, corn, and suet from the feeders spread out just past our windows. Affectionately named Pasta, even an occasional opossum makes their way to the deck.
A treasure trove of tracks awaits our winter walks. The deer and coyotes are certainly present. While winter has slowed down our outdoor adventures and land lessons to some extent, we still enjoy sledding down our mini hill and snowshoeing around the land.
We’ve met with more individuals who may play a part in our farm’s future. whether it is new farming friends to grazing specialists, we are continuing to learn more about how we can utilize the land to make it a special place for our family and our animal friends.
Hopefully, we’ll be able to continue this education as we inch closer to the end of winter and really start the process. Barn improvements. Garden creation. Invasive species eradication. Nature playground and trail planning.
Is it spring yet?
