Mud, Crud, & Blood

We are in full thaw mode here in Wisconsin and the many inches of snow have now melted down into a few dirty snowpiles and a few lonely ice patches. This si the time of year where a friendly reminder to my families about sending in a n extra pair clothes is important.

However, having extra clothes when working in an outdoor classroom is always a good idea.

As I tell my families and students, there will be mud, there could be crud, and their can be blood. Mud, crud, and blood are three main ingredients in the main course of outdoor learning.

Outdoor learning will result in extra laundry. Working in nature will often include unidentified crud. And even in the most safest of situations, there is always a chance that exploring in nature may lead to blood.

But don’t let these scare you away. Mud, crud , and blood are not necessarily bad things. They represent risk-taking, adventure, and exploration, which happen to be three important ingredients to play.

So the next time you see mud, crud, and blood, ignore the extra laundry and bandages and instead celebrate the glory of play.
