The Farm- Week 10

With the land mowed and baled, the vision of what we hope to create is starting to actually be seen. It’s amazing what a little mowed grass and brush removal can do for your aspirations. Besides physically making it much easier to access the land, the emotional connection with the land is enhanced with each and every exploration.

On a jaunt today, I found a skull, new plants, and a ton of golf balls in a section I had previously never visited. Still getting used to our actual boundaries, I am thoroughly enjoying the present and excited about the future. Seeing the potential this land has for a trail we can use for trail running, discovery, and educating others is extremely motivating. Knowing the land is now part of a program that will not only help develop a restoration plan, but create access to financial and human resources to help the plan come to life is amazing. Patience is still key but progress is happening, slowly but surely.

Speaking of slowly but surely, cleaning up the newly cleared areas is moving along, even if at a snail’s pace. The kids are “enjoying” gathering up sticks and adding to our burn pile. More farm treasures of the past have been unearthed and collected for eventual removal. Lots of old fencing and rusted resources of yesteryear are accumulating behind the barn. Collecting and removing debris, sticks, and rocks has essentially become my workout.

Luckily for me and my physical health, many more workouts still remain.
