The Farm - Week 6

Another week of new adventures is in the books. My wife and I did some discussion about our recent LLC creation, our aspirations of podcasting, and our overall vision for restoration. We had a wetland expert come tour the land and he had some amazing and thought-provoking tidbits of advice I’ve summed up in three simple phrases.

  • Take your time!

  • Don’t try to outwit Mother Nature.

  • Have fun!

When I am motivated and inspired, patience isn’t always my strength, but in this case, it will have to be. To make our ultimate vision and dreams come to fruition, we will need to make responsible and timely decisions.

In other news, I joke that this new adventure will force me to become more of a handyman (or at least make more friends who are willing to teach me and fix my inevitable errors). In my previous residence, electrical work was my kryptonite. Now, It appears riding lawn mower belts may have taken over. Practice makes progress. That will be mantra moving forward.

A very busy week put my podcast’s inaugural episode on hold for at least another week, but the busy week didn’t end up uneventful. To celebrate the release of my book (available October 15th at Teaching Off Trail: My Classroom's Nature Transformation through Play (redleafpress.org), I have planned and am scheduling a number of kid-friendly play party events at local nature centers and an official launch party at a local independent bookstore. More details to come!
