The Farm - Week 7
With bow hunting season kicking off this past weekend, we decided it would be a great time to walk the land a little more and get better acquainted with the boundaries, especially if we may have unexpected guests accustomed to using this area for hunting. We are certainly not opposed to hunting, but with this acquisition being recent and with our plans to really start digging into restoring it, we focused on a better safe than sorry mentality. Besides finding four tree stands, we found so much possibility. The wooded corner of our lot is loaded with fallen trees and limbs buried in overgrown grass, but with imagination and patience, it will be a wooded wonderland primed for exploration and discovery. Our open land choked out by invasive grass will slowly but surely transform into a more colorful and native ecosystem much more inviting for the wildlife we look forward to observing. This will be a labor of love, but the rewards will be well worth it.
This week, we also added a new tractor to the mix. A neighbor interested in downsizing graciously offered up his old but reliable riding lawn mower with trailer. This will be very helpful in hauling wood from our soon-to-be cleared area of dead ash trees. I also spent more time unsuccessfully tinkering with another tractor in hopes of restoring it into lawn-cutting shape.
Our LLC is officially up and running so now we can start focusing in how we can utilize it. We are moving closer to starting our podcast once we finalize our vision and find a few minutes to actually try it out. Though the summer air is cooling and autmnl’s breezes are coming, our adventures are just starting to heat up.
