Woodland Owner

I had the pleasure of attending a Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association Conference this weekend. Even though our farm has only a small section of woods, it might be my favorite part. It is currently overcrowded with buckthorn and other non-desirable plants but I am excited that we have started the work to improve these areas. One of the first steps is education, Attending conferences like this is one place where that education can be found. I was able to get educated on native oaks, tree diseases, and management practices that encourage sustaining and promoting amphibian and reptile populations in and around woodlands.

With our buckthorn work, adding of wetland scrapes and prairie plants, and future tree plantings, we are well on our way to turning education into action.
