Day 15
Immediately, I pulled my wife aside and we looked at the offer simultaneously on our own phones. What we read was a sight for sore eyes. As the process of negotiation for the new house had been a bumpy road with twists and turns we’d rather avoid, this seemed like it might be a comfortable and smooth ride. The offer was incredible. It was significantly over the asking price, didn't require a home inspection, and allowed us to live there until the closing was completed on the new house. While we were told there was another offer on the table and potentially another still to come, our agent was pretty certain this was the best we could ask for. He was right again.
Over the asking prices. Yes, and by a significant amount.
Waiving the house inspection. Yes. An unexpected and appreciated gesture.
Allowing us to live at the house past the thirty day closing and even a few days after the scheduled closing at the new property. Very, very helpful and stress-reducing.
After a short deliberation, we accepted the offer.
We knew we were the perfect buyer for our future home. A family interested in restoring land. We found the perfect buyer for our house. A young couple desperately wanting a house after many, many missed opportunities. Our timing was also perfect. We bought a house at a price below the asking price and sold one well above.
Even though the couple that purchased our house gave us the time we needed to seal the deal without having to rent a temporary, short-term living space and storage facility, we still aimed to prepare as much as we could as quickly as possible so we could enjoy our final moments in our neighborhood.
The packing intensified and the cleaning continued. We rented a storage trailer and had it placed in front of the house. Doing our best Tetris imitation, we loaded and unloaded that trailer until we felt the space was adequately utilized. We had a goal of making the transition to the new house as easy and painless as possible.
Unfortunately, the owner of our future house stood in the way of that goal.
