Day 17 - Move or Remove

Every phone call brought an odd rush of anxiety and excitement. The day after the final walkthrough fiasco involved calls to the lawyer, calls to the agent, calls to the selling agent, and discussions with each other. We never intended to have to deal with any of this. Obviously, we knew there might be bumps along the way but this was bumpier than any of us could have imagined. But we felt firm that despite how bumpy it became, we were on the right path. Nervous about what was going to happen next, it was also empowering knowing we were doing what we felt was right and we were refusing to be pushovers. These three days felt like a split second and an eternity simultaneously.

Finally, we were informed that after multiple attempts, contact was finally made with the selling agent (thanks to the lawyer). This agent was firmly made aware that the owner was heading towards a breach of contract. This must have been very motivating for him (or maybe his wallet) because almost immediately, we heard back from him. He was able to connect with the owner and family and start turning things towards a more amicable and less threatening solution. Wanting to make sure the sale went through, the granddaughter stepped in and decided to take charge of the situation. Moving required removing. In other words, in order for us to be able to start moving in, tons of removing was required. With limited time left before we were the owners of the house, land, and everything on it, we weren't quite sure if that was possible and what we would be walking into in a few days.

We knew the cleanup process would be gargantuan. Wanting to help and help make sure we weren't left with an overwhelming cleanup to deal with upon moving in, we got quotes on dumpsters and moving crews. We sent those quotes to the owner to see if that would alleviate the stress and help the removal process go smoothly. Those offers were declined as it was apparent the owner wasn't willing to shell out any money after already accepting an offer he felt was unfair.
