Day 19 - To Close or Not to Close
It finally looked like there might be light at the end of the tunnel. Based on the topsy-turviness of everything that had occurred up to this point, we weren't celebrating yet. We had to head to the new house and make sure everything was to our approval before signing the closing paperwork.
When we arrived, the granddaughter of the owner was already there. She profusely apologized and blamed stress on her grandfather’s actions and reactions. We politely chatted as she showed off the amazing progress the family had made to prepare the property. She mentioned that there was still work remaining, but the wheels were in motion to have everything ready by the time we aimed to move in. A slight chill made us metaphorically shiver when she mentioned anything that couldn't be cleared out would be placed on the property next door, just as the owner had warned us a few days earlier. However, this time, it was said in a much less threatening manner.
We were able to walk through the house and check out every nook and cranny. It was ready. As we moved to the garage, we were a bit more unsure of what it might look like. Much to our surprise, the garage was cleared out as well.
Next up, the barn. We knew that the barn was a huge issue for the owner before. Filled with items he had acquired over a lifetime, he was seemingly not ready to part with this space and denying his request to rent it out from us started this whole spiral of suckiness. As we entered, we noticed we were actually able to move around freely. While there were items left inside, much of it had been cleared out. Many of the items scattered throughout the lawn on previous visits were gone, though we did see a collection growing to the west of our property line. We were hoping that the collection wouldn't grow much more.
Overall, we were pleased and ready to close. I decided to make one last stop before meeting my wife at the office and opening up the next chapter of our lives.
Unfortunately, something else opened as well.
