The Farm - Week 14
With fall here and winter on its way, we took some time to slow down and really think about the future of our farm, Craneview on Plainview. We definitely have lots of plans and are excited to see them come together. A year ago, we’d laugh at the prospect of having 20 acres of land and a hobby farm. But now, just after a few months, it is beginning to feel like home.
I will admit, I do miss elements of our previous neighborhood. The conveniences. The sounds of kids playing, lawns being mowed, and people milling around. And the neighbors! We were so blessed to be around such amazing people. We were happy to visit them over the past weekend for trick or treating and look forward to creating some fun opportunities for reunions at the farm.
But until then, it is time to get to work. I mowed for hopefully the last time of the season, started organizing the barn, and with the help of my eldest daughter, kept our newly planted orchard watered. Embry loves driving the tractor. Our daily trips to the fruit trees is a highlight as is our regular excursions to the back of the property in search of new treasures for what she calls “our collection.” Currently, it consists of about sixty golf balls, a few animal bones, and half a deer shed from an eight-point buck. I can only imagine how this collection will continue to grow.
The picture from today’s entry is a pair of sketches I drew roughly detailing what our property looks like now and what it could potentially become. I can’t wait to find out!
